Fishing the Eastern Sierras
Inside Sportfishing and Snowcreek are proud to partner with the finest fly shop and guide service in Mammoth Lakes. With a staff of six professional guides and three owner operators the Trout Fly Guide Service can handle the novice fly caster through the expert angler.
During the winter months guided float trips on the Lower Owens River and fishing the Owens Gorge are available and provide outstanding fishing. The float trips are a fantastic way to get to water that is very difficult to access for most anglers. They are not traditional float trips like those in Montana. These float trips use the boat to get to the best water on the river and then you will walk and wade stretches of the Owens that rarely see anglers. It’s a very easy way to access fantastic fishing for native Brown Trout.
During the summer months the Trout Fly’s Guide Service covers all the waters from Bishop to Bridgeport, and now fully licensed for Nevada, guides are able to fish the East Walker River on the Nevada side. The Trout Fly's Guide Service can tailor a guided trip suited to your abilities and fly-fishing tastes. Whether it be one of the special packages for ladies or first-time beginners, you’ll be assured of getting some great fishing as well as excellent instruction to expand your abilities.
Don’t miss a chance to fish Alpers’ Pond located on the Alpers’ Owens River Ranch. This is the only fishery that will guarantee a shot, every time in the water, at a trout of a lifetime. This three acre pond is stocked with prime, hard fighting Alpers Trout. It’s a barbless, fly fishing only, catch and release float tube fishery that will drive you nuts. Eight to eighteen pound fish that are as smart and tough as they come. It’s not fishing in a barrel and you may want to consider a guide because these fish are hard to catch. If you do get one count on being towed around the pond and bring a camera because it will be the fish of a lifetime!
Another summer option is to try your hand at "Midging" from one of the guide boats on Crowley Lake or Bridgeport Reservoir. This powerful technique, perfected by Trout Fly guides over several years, has made for some unparalleled still water fishing.
The Trout Fly Guide Service is fully equipped with any rental equipment that may be needed for beginners, spouses or children. From float tubes, fins, waders, wading shoes or rods and reels they have you covered.
If you’re a bait fisherman and want to try your luck on your own there is the Mammoth Lakes chain only minutes above town or you can drive 25 minutes to the June Lake Loop, another outstanding chain of lakes. Convict and Crowley Lake are also very good options not to mention hiking into the forest to high elevation lakes in search of Goldens and Brookies. No matter what your fishing tastes Mammoth Lakes has something for everyone.
