Inside Sportfishing Pro Staff - Adam Cassidy
Adam has been fishing the age of 5. He started out like most of us do, fishing the piers and jetties to learn the ropes, mostly fishing Malibu pier and the jetties in Oxnard, but only a few times a year. Around 10 years ago he picked up the rods and again and started fishing the surf on a regular basis. He really got into the feel of catching fish in a more limited environment, especially the feeling of being on a wide sandy beach with no one around and nothing between him and the fish but water, discovering a sense of purity.
He now owns a 16’ Invader center console and you can usually find him either on the beach or in the flats of San Diego Bay chasing Spotted Bay Bass. Whether he’s throwing a grub or a fly, nothing is more intriguing to him than waiting for that moment when everything comes together, the line goes taught and you set the hook on your next possibility.
In addition, Adam is the Treasurer for the United Pier and Shore Anglers of California (UPSAC), a non-profit 401 (C3) organization created to represent shore based anglers - a group of anglers who are large in numbers, but seem to be under represented. UPSAC organizes seminars for organizations that have an interest in pier and surf fishing and look for ways to improve regulations for shore based anglers as well as educate them on techniques from improving their techniques to proper handling of fish and species identification.
