Dan Ross’ Specialty Guide Service

Nushagak River Camp is one of the premiere wilderness camps in all the world. Dan and Susie Ross will be your hosts as you experience unparalleled scenery, wildlife and fresh ocean run Salmon of all species.
The Nushagak River is at the head of the Bristol Bay, the most prolific fishery in all of the Northern Pacific. It’s a huge river system with a drainage that runs well over 200 miles. The return of the spawning King Salmon can exceed over 500,000 fish and its average is close to 175,000. Historically, this is one of the most consistent runs in all of Alaska.

You simply can’t believe it unless you’ve been there yourself when the Kings come in. You can literally catch fish until you think your arms will fall off. Over 100 fish per boat per day have been landed during the peak of the run and these are the biggest King Salmon to enter all of the Bristol Bay. Twenty-five pound Kings are common and hogs exceeding fifty pounds are caught routinely. All the fish are hard fighters, bright silver and fresh
ocean run. The Kings of the Nushagak will test your tackle and stamina.
Your adventure will start with a short float plane ride from Dillingham to the river camp.
You will have an opportunity to view the wilderness that will surround you during your stay. There is no other place like Dan’s Specialty Guide Service Nushagak River Camp anywhere in Alaska. It’s located right on the banks of the river and it’s at the heart of the very best Salmon fishing in the world.
Fishing Seasons & Equipment
King Salmon are an obvious target of most fisherman at the Nushagak. They are present in the river from mid-June through early August.
Starting right before the Kings and running through mid July are the hard fighting Chum Salmon. About the last week of June massive runs of Sockeye invade the river. They provide great action and are one of the best eating of all Alaska Salmon. In alternate years Pink Salmon show up in July and August and are often so numerous that they become a bother.
The last of the Salmon to appear are the Silvers. They appear in mid to late August and are fishable well into September. Available all season in backwaters and sloughs up and down the river are Northern Pike. They can be caught on flies or conventional gear and provide a good diversion from the Salmon action. Rainbow Trout, Grayling and Artic Char can also be found in the streams and tributaries running into the Nushagak River.
Dan can personally arrange your fishing schedule to whatever experience or species you may be after. All of Dan’s guides are Coast Guard certified and make their living fishing year round.
